Useful Gallops On Awapuni Tracks

PALMERSTON N-, Last Night (Special).—Conditions were good for this morning's work at Awapuni and the course proper and plough were fast. The programme was a comparatively light one. Among the outstanding items were miie gallops by Battle Strife and Baicairn and by Lord Holland and Audacious, a sevenfurlong work-out by Voltaic, and seven furlongs by Sandy Harrison. The trestles were wide out on the course proper. Battle Strife (G. R. Tattersail) and Baicairn _(W. L. Aitken) ran their mile in 1.50 4-5 and were home really well in 40 4-5. Voltaic’s time from the seven-fur-long barrier was 1.43 3-5, and although he was never asked to go faster than 15 to the furlong he worked very -smoothly, indicating that he has recovered from the soreness he had last week. Pitoitoi (J. Harris) worked over live furlongs and was going well at the post after running the distance in 1- 4-5. Sandy Harrison (J. Harris) ran his seven in 1.37 2-5, his time between the six and the three being 39 3-5. Kumari and Offender ran the *ast three of their five in 40 3-5, and Beaulorm and Clever Boy their last three a shade faster. Matara (J. Harris) and Giggle (Aitken) were home well in 41 3-5 to complete seven in 1.38 3-5. Marloch (Tattersail) covered live 'furlongs in 1.10 with the pace on foi* ’the last three in better than 42. I Lord Ho.land (Miss Molly Feehan) and Audacious (J. Hely) galloped their I mile on the plough. They were under a good hold early, but they ran their last seven in 1.33 4-5, last six in 1.20 2- and last three in 39. It was a good gallop. i Aurora’s Star (Aitken) and Nerisser (J. Carter) broke 40 for the last three of live and were going strongly at the finish. Their gallop was on the' p.ough. One of the best fives on the course proper was that of Loya! Camp (R. i Brown) and Fairy Story (A. G. Wadi loll). They broke 1.8. I Tremello has been turned out for a ‘ spell.
