Freedom For Farmers To Supply To Butter Or Cheese Factories
(P.A.) Wellington, June 29. “The Dairy Supply Control Order has been revoked,” said the Minister of Agriculture, Mr. Cullen, today. “All transfers will now be made in accordance with the dairy produce regulations,” continued the Minister, “and suppliers can change from butter to cheese or from cheese to butter factories during the normal ‘free’ months, which are June and July in the North Island and July and August in the South Island.” North Island farmers would thus have all July in which to arrange for the diversion of their supplies to cheese factories if that was their intention. “Revocation of the control order does not affect the position of any supply governed by an Executive Commission zoning order,” said the Minister. “The thanks of the Government are due to dairy companies and farmers who responded so well during the period when the United Kingdom had special need for one product instead of another. “Britain requires the maximum quantities of all dairy products, and it is hoped the removal of the restrictions will stimulate producers to increase further the output of these essential foodstuffs,” concluded the Minister.
