Wellington, June 28. Plans for the production of heavy duty white commercial crockery and tableware in New Zealand have been completed, and will) the installation, of the latest overseas equipment now being completed under the supervision of English experts, large supplies of ware urgently needed in hospitals. restaurants, hotels and public institutions will be rolling from local kilns within the next four months. This was reported in a statement by Mr. D. I. McDonald, secretary of the New Zealand Pottery and Ceramic Manufacturers’ AssociationMr. McDonald said the New Zealand pottery industry had made great strides since venturing into the tableware field some six years ago, and has reached the stage where it would shortly be supplying high grade heavy duty ware, of which the New Zealand market was critically short today. Explaining the present shortage. Mr. McDonald said supplies from the former main source, the United Kingdom were controlled by the Board of Trade. English potters were urged to concentrate on decorated chinaware and earthware for export, supplies of undecorated ware being made for the English domestic market. “With the Dominions' potteries supplying the requirements of heavy dutv tableware and both plain and decorated lighter ware. including complete dinner and teasets, and with the United Kingdom manufacturers concentrating on fine decorated chinaware. the Dominion market should be well met in the coming year." said the statement.
