CLUB FINED FOR SALE OF LIQUOR
(P.A.) Auckland. June 25. Fines ot £5O on each of three charges of selling liquor without a licence were imposed on the Biltmore Club by Mr. J. H. Luxford, S-M. On three informations of aiding and assisting to sell the liquor, John Callaghan was fined £lO on each charge. Sub-inspector Daly said the club was in Swanson Street. It was a small place and had a dance floor, bar and a juke box, During the last three months. 1120 dozen bottles of beer had been ordered by the club. There were 143 members and the membership fee was £3 3s a vear. The only source of income outside the profit made on the beer came from the juke box and from the sales of empty beer bottles. On June 3, the day police visited the premises, 1443 bottles of beer, five of spirits and 21 bottles of wine were received. Complaints had been received about excessive drinking there.
