CHILE LEAVES THE DOLLAR AREA AND JOINS STERLING
(N.Z.P.A. —Reuter—Copyright.) Recd. 5.30 p.m. London, June 26. Chile has left the dollar area and joined the transferable sterling area for the purposes of sterling payment, states a Treasury announcement. This means that current payments between Chile and any other members of the transferable sterling area group can in future be in sterling instead of dollars. The move is all the more welcome here as the Argentine, Brazil and Uruguay recently left the group and joined countries with which sterling payments are merely bilateral.
