£7000 IN NOTES IN PARCEL IN SYDNEY DEAD LETTER OFFICE
(N.Z. P.A. —Copyright.) Recd. 5.30 p.m. Sydney, June 27 A battered brown paper parcel in the dead letter section of the General Post Office was found to contain £7OOO in banknotes. The parcel was tied closely with twine and had been handled by at least a dozen pople before it was sent to the dead letter office. The addressee cannot be found, nor does the parcel contain anything to identify the sender. The police are investigating, because one theory is that the money was posted by Frank Allard. a baccarat gambler, whose battered body was found in a stormwater canal on June 10. The police suggest that Allard might have decided to quit gambling, and that he posted the money intending to pick it u». later under another name. Prioi to his death he was known to have won a large sum. but this has not been found. The parcel bore a Queensland address, but nobodv in the district would accept delivery. If the addressee or the sender cannot be traced the money will be paid into the consolidated revenue.
