Australia Has Its Rocket Range Project In Close Secrecy
Reed. 8.40 p.m. Adelaide, June 27. The first photographs of a German V2 rocket bomb and launching gear at a secret rocket factory, Salisbury, South Australia, have been released to the Press. The factory, which was formerly a war munitions plant costing £7,000,000 is 300 miles from the rocket range centre at Woomera. Planes of the R.A.A.F. are maintaining a constant, security patrol over the rocket range area and civilian aircraft are banned from flying over terrain measuring 1400 square miles. At the factory scientists are still unpacking parts of the weanons recovered from the Germans. These include the V2, an ingenious X 4 jet-propelled anti-aircraft bomb, which carries an exnlosive head and miles of fine wire, and cap be exploded by radio.
