BRAVERY IN SAVING LIFE
ROYAL SOCIETY AWARDS. (PA) Christchurch, June 26. Two Christchurch residents and two North Island boys have won awards for bravery in the latest list approved by the Royal Humane Society of New Ze ßaymond George .aged IL of J au P° will receive the bronze medallion lor rescuing Yvonne Falker, aged 4, of Tauiro, from the Waikato River on January 4 of this year. A medallion is also conferred on Thomas Joseph Reid, aged 11, whose home is near Whakatane, in the Bay of Plenty. Thomas noticed an unknown boy, aged about 8, fall on a rock into deep water at the mouth of the Whakatane River on January 13 of this year. Pausing only to discard his shirt, he dived in and swam across a swift current, catching the drowning boy and struggling back with him to the shore. Mrs. Daphne Madden ,of Islington, is awarded a framed certificate for rescuing live small children, including three of her own, from her blazing home at 470 Wilson's Road, Christchurch, on December 30 of last year. Patrick Bryan Cahill, aged 10, of 24 Glasgow Street, Linwood, is awarded a letter of commendation for going to the assistance of Mrs. Douglas Cresswell, of Governor’s Bay, in Lyttelton Harbour, when Mrs. Cresswell got into difficulties • while swimming at Governor’s Bay on January 26, 1947-
