Values Fully Firm At Mid-Winter Sale

In spite of inclement weather there was a large attendance of buyers, including strong representation from the Waikato, at Freeman R. Jackson and Co.'s mid-winter sheep and cattle fair. The sale for hoggets was a keen orte, particularly for all top lots of wether hoggets, which sold at an advance ot from 5s 6d to 6s a head on recent sales. The long overdue advance after the dry autumn market rates appears to have arrived at last, states the firm. ,Ewe hoggets also sold well- A good offering of breeding ewes was offered. All the top lots were mated to Southdown rams and sold well, but buyers were not so keen on ewes mated to Romneys. Late lambing and poor condition lots were slightly neglected. A light yarding of grown wethers sold well. Of a total yarding of about 7500 sheep, practically a total clearance was made. The large yarding in the cattle section met with a good, bright sale fully firm on recent rates. There was a total clearance except for two pens. On the whole it was really an excellent sale for this time of the year.
