Great Day For England

THE BOWLERS HAD AUSTRALIA PINNED TO NEUTRALITY Recd. 7.5 p.m. London, June 25 England’s bowlers rose magnificently to their task on an easypaced wicket, says “The Times” cricket writer, in comment on the first day’s test play. To take seven Australian wickets for 258 was something of a triumph. “Let us hope those who saw Bedser and Coxon bowl yesterday will discard the impression that there is no attack in this country,” he writes. “Wright, teto, in one spell was splendid, but the fielding is still below test standard. The Australians were at the time clearly pinned down to neutrality, which was, in great measure, dictated to them. This was a good day for English cricket.”
