Taihape Primary Schools Rugby Seven-a-Side Tourney
(0.C.) Taihape, June 23. Conducted by the Taihape Primary Schools’ Sports Association, the annual seven-a-side Rugby tournament was held recently. A record number of entries was received in the junior grade, teams coming from as far afield as Raetihi, Ohakune and Hunterville. The senior grade comprised only seven teams. In the junior grade, which was won by the Convent team, there was some very good play, the final between Utiku and Convent being very evenly played. The Convent team seemed the fitter of the two, and scored an easy try right on time, when Utiku seemed assured of victory. In the senior grade Taihape A were the winners. Ohakune A and Hunterville both fielded very strong teams, but were not able to hold the Taihape team. A feature of all the senior matches was the solid tackling. Results were:— Under 7 stone. —First round: Convent 9. Raetihi 6; Ohakune A 6, Hunterville A 0; Taihape A 15, Moawhango 0; Utiku 6, Hunterville B 3; Taihape B 9, Pouranrraki 3, Ohakune B 0; Taihape C 6, Hihitahi 0; Ohingaiti a bye.
