WANGANUI AERO CLUB’S PROCTOR MACHINE TO FLY WITHIN MONTH

Flying over Wanganui during the first week of June should be the fourplace Proctor ot the Wanganui Aero Cluff The machine is expected to arrive at Auckland next week, will be assembled there and flown to Christchurch, for the fitting of the fourth seat, be certificated, and flown up to Wanganui. The club instructor, Mr. T. Silk, probably will be visiting Christchurch to Bring the aircraft here. Usually the Proctor is a three place job, but to meet the requirements ot the wanganui club an addiitonal seat is to be installed. As licences have yet to be issued for aero clubs to undertake air taxi work, only club members can hire the machine tor away-flying. However, the club has already had several instances when businessmen of Wanganui have paid the guinea membership fee of the club so tnat they can hire 'planes with which to make business nights. With a faster, larger and more comlortable machine, in t.ie Proctor, at their disposal, businessmen are likely to make even greater use of this method of transport. The Proctor is an all-weather machine, and it is not anticiapted that winter weather will cause any noticable diminlshment in the amount of flying done from the Wanganui airport. A canopied Tiger Moth will be a useful addition to the club's flight, particularly during the colder months. A converted Tiger returned from Auckland about a week ago anq is now in commission. Since the club resumed training operations nearly 20 pupils have been put through to the solo stage, and beyond. Among the several trainees now nearing the solo stage are two women. The club has three women active flying members, including Miss Trevor Hunter, who served as a terry pilot in England during the war, Hying machines from factories to air stations.
