MR. A. V. O’BRIEN GIVING UP DUTIES AS JUDGE
Prior to the opening of the Egmont Racing Club’s winter meeting, which concluded on Saturday, Mr. A. V. O’Brien, who has acted as judge for a number of years, advised the president, Mr. W. O. Williams, that he wished to relinquish the position at the end of the current season in order to concentrate on handicapping. On Saturday, during an interval, Mr. O’Brien was met in the com-mittee-room by the stewards, on whose behalf the president accepted the resignation with regret, paying a eulogistic tribute to Mr. O'Brien’s long association with the club and the good service he had rendered. Mr. O'Brien is also judge for the Wanganui Jockey Club. It is understood that he intends to relinquish all judging appointments, as his handicapping duties take up so much of his time. Mr. O'Brien is handicapper for the Wairarapa, Otaki, Taranaki, Dannevirke Hunt, Egmont - Wanganui Hunt, Waverley, Carterton, Napier Park, Ashhurst, Opunake, Levin and Marlborough Clubs, Recently he was appointed in a similar capacity by the Manawatu Hunt Club.
