U.S. RACEHORSES TO BE TATOOED

New York, Feb. 23. Thoroughbred Racing Associations unanimously approved of a lip tatoo brand method of identifying- racehorses, and the tatooing of each thoroughbred will be required before it is permitted on the associations tracks in 1948. Two-year-olds will be required to be tattooed by July 1 and older horses by April 1, 1948. The first tittoor, were done freehand, but dies with needier, protruding at one end in the shape of a number have now been developed. The dies will be under control of the racing authorities, and any attempts to falsify a number on a “ringer” will readily be detected, because it is impossible for the needle arrangement in the dies to b;j duplicated.
