In the third Hawke Cup cricket match of the season which began here to-day, Manawatu (holders) batted first to make 228 against Taranaki, the challengers. (C. C. McVicar 90, J. A. Ongley 44, B. D. Miller 20). Bowling: A. M. Matheson took three for 57 and S. H. Betts, three for 41. In 40 minutes’ play before stumps, Taranaki lost two wickets for 13. H. Purcell took two for four. A three day game, it will be resumed to-mor-row.
