TARANAKI BOWLING TOURNAMENT
FLETCHER AND MAILMAN STILL UNBEATEN STONE AND TILLEY THREE WINS EACH. (Special) New Plymouth, Jan. 21. Fours skipped by E. Fletcher (Wanganui E.) and P. J. Mailman (Gonville) are. among the 15 teams which remain undefeated out of 138 competing in the Taranaki bowling centre's open fours tournament, in which the third and fourth rounds of sections play were decided to-day. W. L. Richdale (Gonville) last year’s winner of the tournament, today had only one win, his first to date. Fletcher and Mailman played good bowls. Fletcher won both games today by substantial margins, beating G. G. Pole (Tauranga), 30-16, and I. Jury (Paritutu), 26-13. He Is the only unbeaten skip in his section, which, though it contains a large number of visiting fours, does not appear particularly strong. Mailman beat. W. Finnerty (Stratford), 29-15, inflicting on him his first defeat. He beat L. Walsh (Hawera Park), 28-22 in the fourth round.
Of the other Wanganui competitors, W, J. Stone has three wins. He was beaten in the fourth round by the veteran J. T. Paritt (Fitzroy), so far undefeated. A, D. Tilley (Wanganui) also has three wins to his credit. He lost to a Hamilton four skipped by W. Forsyth, 27-24.
H. S. Harris (St. John’s) went down to the undefeated V. S. Pruden (Paritutu) and has two wins, as has L. G. Walker (Wanganui). J. Johnson (St. John's), and W. Raine (Wanganui East), each have one win, Raine having lost both to-day's games. W. Wenliam (Feilding) had a good day, winning both his games. He has lost only once. J. S. Tingey (Feilding) and G. Packer (Feilding) have two wins and two losses. J. G, Verry (Waitotara) has not yet won a game.
