RUGBY FOOTBALL KAIERAU’S CHALLENGE AGAINST UNBEATEN T.O.B. FAILS
PIRATES AND WANGANUI 0.8. WIN Kaierau played a strenuous game against Technical Old Boys in the main Rugby match on Saturday, but was unable to conquer the unbeaten leaders in the Wanganui senior championship. There were sufficient lapses in Kaierau's defence to enable Technical Old Boys to win by 11 points to 3. Pirates livened in the second spell sufficiently to beat Waverley by 15 points to 6, and Wanganui Old Boys, with the score at six to five in their favour, made a late second spell rally to defeat Al arist by 17 points to five. At the end of the second round the teams appear in the following order:
Technical Old Boys, Pirates and Kaierau now enter the third round to decide the fate of the championship. The draw for next Saturday will be made to-night, with Kaierau v. Pirates the best “bet” from a union point of view, allowing Technical Old Boys to have the “bye,” but to play in the Charity Cup contest, in which all six teams will have a chance, starting from scratch. Points for the Charity Cup will be awarded to the top three teams simultaneously with the ehamionship points.
