STEEPLECHASE WON BY NORTHFIELD COMBINED CLUBS’ MEETING Relishing lhe easy going at Stratford on Saturday afternoon, Young Trent carried off the honours in the President’s Handicap, principal fiat event at the combined meeting held by the Egmont and Stratford Racing Clubs. The Awapuni-lrained Northfield won the Stratford Hack and I Hunters’ Steeplechase, and Dymondy I sprang a surprise in the Tonks Handicap, returning a dividend of just un'ier a third of a century. The concluding event was won by General Fay. ridden by N. B. Holland, who also scored on the two-year-old Te Rapatrained Ganjah in the Maiden Stakes. General Pay is trained at Stratford by J. G. Farrell, who also trains Dymondy. In the opening event, the Malone Hack and Hunters’ Hurdles, Master Guard beat Lotto by a head, with Peter’s Choice third.’ but on a protest, for interference Master Guard was relegated to third place, the judicial committee finding that Master Guard had interfered with Lotto and Peter’s Choice. after the second race, the investments on which were adversely affected. The committee dismissed a charge of careless riding laid against G. P. Dowrick, rider of Master Guard. There was a good attendance at the meeting, which opened in fine weather, but later the weather became cold and showery.
