NEW BRITISH RECORD IN BEATING DUTCHMAN Recd. 8 p.m. London, July 21 After one of the greatest races in England for years, Wooderson heat VV. F. Slykhuis, of Holland, in three miles at the Amateur Athletic Association's championships. The time was 13min. 53.25ec., establishing a new British record. Wooderson led until 300 yards from home, when the. Dutchman went ahead and soon led by five yards. Wooderson drew level 50 'yards from the finish and breasted the tape four yards in front. A. S. Wint, of Jamaica, and E. McDonald Bailey, of Trinidad, starred with Wooderson for the British athletic championships. Wint won the quarter-milc in 48.4 seconds and the half-hiile in 114.8 seconds. Bailey, who twice this season recorded 9.7 seconds for the 100 yards, won the hundred in 9.8 seconds. The 18-year-old A. S. Paterson, of Glasgow, won the high jump, Gft. 2in. Douglas Wilson, of England, covered the mile in 4min. 17.4 secs. Dutchmen dominated the field events.
