HOME SIDE FOUR FOR 236 BATSMEN NOT GREATLY TROUBLED Recd. 5.30 p.m. London, July 20. Heavy rain delayed the start of the match between England and India at Manchester. India won the toss and put England in, Hutton and Washbrook being the opening batsmen. They gave England a good start. Neither appeared greatly troubled by the bowling of Sohoni and Amarnath, although they could not take lioerties i with Amarnath, who bowled negatively to an array of leg fielders. Compton and Hutton treated Mankad respectfully and progressed chiefly by singles. The century appeared after 115 minutes.
