CITIZENS' MAJORITY ON CITY COUNCIL REDUCED TO ONE
As r result of the by-election held in Wanganui on Saturday. Citizens now have r majority of only one on the City Council. The three councillors disqualified under the Local Authorities (Members’ Contracts) Act, 1934. were all Citizens, but at the by-election on Saturday two Citizens and one candidate were returned. As there are 12 councillors and one Mayor, this gives Citizens seven beats and Labour six. made un as follow*: Citizens: Crs. W. S. N. Rennie, A. R. Donaldson. J. F. W. Broad, A. J. Pritchard, and T. N. Dickson, and Messrs. D. W. Earle and R. E. Jack vet to he sworn in after the official count Is completed. Labour: The Mayor. Hon. W. J. Rogers, and Crs. G. P. Hawkins, R. J. Harris, R P. Andrews, and J. C. Batt, and Mr. W. G. Price, yet to be sworn In. In the event of one Citizens’ <\nuncillor being absent. Labour would have a majority on lhe casting vote of the Mayor.
