LINER NORMANDIE WILL BE SCRAPPED

New York, July 18. The former French liner Normandie, which burned and capsized at a New York dock in 1942, will be broken up for scrap. This decision follows an announcement of a severe shortage in America of scrap met al for steel mills. Under the reconversion emergency programme surplus ships numbering several hundreds and guns, tanks and ammunition will be broken up.
