AT MATAMATA

PROSPECTS REVIEWED (Special) Auckland, July 19.

Useful Helds all round will be seen in action at the Matamata meeting tomorrow, although the open steeplechase drew a very small entry and acceptance. The going should be fairly good, for this turf recovers well. Three fancied runners in last week's Paeroa Cup, Fame Bian (first), La Fillette (third) and Valley Boy should be prominent in the principal flat race at Matamata, the Pohlen Handicap, although all three are also in the last event. Improvement may be expected from South Riding, Betterman (if started here), and Brown Atom. Fame Bian, if an allowance is again claimed, should be hard to beat. The Taihoa Handicap is for apprentice riders only. Rakanui is very well and with a prospective allowance he would be a possibility, for the class is just moderate. Beryl Fox should be the favourite on recent form. . The following may be well supported:— Perla Steeplechase. Tanga-ta-pai, Inka, Brown Ronald. First Piarere Hack.—Te Wepu, Valtoon, Gay Joy. Pohlen Handicap. La Fillette, Valley Boy, Fame Bian. Corbett Steeplechase. Betterman, Dumbo. Second Piarere Hack. Kuku Nul, Bambion. Bronze Royal. Okauia Hurdles. Ernada, Stock Exchange. Beau Dink. Te Poi Hack. Flying Jim, Kurawhi, Bettermusk. Taihoa Handicap. Beryl Fox, Hunting Park, Hunting Loch. Following are the fields:— 11.0
