LEVEL OF LAKE TAUPO RISING

A HEAVY RAINFALL (P.A.) Wellington, July 19. Between yesterday and 0 a.m. today the level of Lake Taupo rose about a tenth of a foot. The rainfall for the 24 hours preceding 9 a.m., both at Tokaanu and Taupo, was 1.36 in. and the latest report was that rain was continuing at Tokaanu. The catchment area of Lake Taupo received a good soaking and it is believed that the lake level will show a greater increase. Rmt has fallen at Mangaliao, and the dams there are in a slightly better position, the State Hydro-electric Department reported to-day.
