SOCIAL AND PERSONAL Mrs. G. H. Robertson, Wicksteed Street, is visiting Rotorua. Miss Gretta Williams, who has been the guest of Mrs. I. E. Newton, St. John s Hill, has returned to Napier. Miss G. Millward, Kawatiri Avenue, is spending a holiday in Wellington. Miss Betty Sparks, who has been the guest of Mrs . Nelson Hughes, Maxwell, has returned to Wellington. Miss Margaret Robertson, Wicksteed Street, has left for a visit to Auckland. Miss Isla Strachan, Liffiton Street, Miss Eileen Travers, Castlecliff, Miss Pat Brooking, Koromiko Road, and Miss Peggy Grant, Durie Hill, of the Palmerston North Hospital nursing staff, are spending their leave in Wanganui. Miss Pat Brooking will return to-morrow to resume her duties. Wanganui Indies’ Choir The assisting artists at the forthcoming Wanganui Ladies’ Choir recital will be Merle Gamble (Wellington). soprano: Valda Purdy, solo pianist, and William Thomson (Palmerston North), baritone. Card Afternoon The winners of the card games at the weekly “500’’ party held by the Wanganui East. Croquet Club were Mrs. L. G. Walker, Mrs. Ginn (consolation prize) and Mrs. Munro (mystery). The hostesses were Mesdames Walker and Boswell.

W.I. Dominion Conference Delegates The 25th anniversary of the founding of the Women’s Institute movement in New Zealand will be celebrated at the Dominion conference, which will open in Wellington next Wednesday and continue until Friday. As well as delegates it is expected that there will be many visitors from branches throughout the Dominion present at the gathering. Each institute is to send one delegate to the conference. Delegates from the Wanganui Federation, who will leave on Tuesday for Wellington, are Miss Dawes (federation executive), Mesdames Uttley (Westbourne), Bryant (Fordell), Mackey (Kaitoke), Brook (Marton), Flynn (Westmere), Sharpe (Rapanui), Gordon (Hunterville), Williams (Brunswick), Staite (Kai Iwi), Seddon (Aramoho), Gardner (Okoia), Davies (Kohi). Other representatives of various institutes will also attend the conference.

WEDDING

COX—KINGSTON. Lovely flowers decorated St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, Glasgow Street, for the wedding on June 29. of Audrey Frances, younger daughter of Mr. and Mrs. C. H. H.ngston, Wanganui, and William (Bill) George, second son of Mr. and Mrs. B. E. T. Cox, Wanganui East. The Rev. A. Brash officiated, and Miss Dorothy Rowe, aunt of the bride, was organist. The bride, who entered the church with her father, wore an attractive gown of white velvet and crepe de chene. Velvet embroidered with Tvrls formed the square-iecked boaice which had three-quarter length sleeves, and pearl embroidered panels of velvet were inset in the end of the train of the full skirt of crepe de chene. A tiara of snowdrops and orange blossom held in place her veil of embroidered silk net (lent by her sister, Mrs. P. Bartruim), which was worn over the face when entering the church. She carried a bouquet of lilies, cream roses, orchids, and maidenhair fern, and wore a locket of topaz and pearl, set in gold. Attending the bride as matron of honour, was her sister, Mi's. P. Bartrum, who wore a full-skirted frock of pale mauve satin backed crepe with bodice and sleeves embroidered with silver beads. Shoulder length mauve net gathered to a headband of pale blue organdie flowers formed her headdress. The small flower girl, Jennifer Kingston, of Hawera, cousin of j the bride, wore a picture frock of I mauve-cei’ise crepe embroidered with I silver beads, and headband of selfj material and silver lace. Both carj ried bouquets to match their frocks. The bridegroom’s brother, Mr. John Cox, was best man. The ushers were Messrs. Trevor Cox and Keith Paterson. At the reception at the Savage Club Hall, the guests were received by the bride’s mother, who wore a navy blue ensemble, hat and accessories to match, and fur necklet. The bridegroom’s mother wore green silk morocain with bead embroidery, black accessories, and fur coat. Both wore sprays of orchids. For travelling the bride chose a checked costume in autumn shades, smart felt hat trimmed with flowers to lone with the check colours, brown coat and accessories”*.
