BRITAIN’S LATEST BATTLESHIP

COMES THROUGH TESTS WELL (Special—N.Z.P.A.). Recd. 8 o.m. London, July 19. The Vanguard, Britain’s latest battleship. which has been carrying out high altitude anti-aircraft gunnery tests with her “hush-hush” equipment, enters the graving dock at Devonport this week to undergo final gun tilt tests and adjustments. It is reported that the ship has come through her trials with complete success. The results of the gunnerv tests, which were watched by 60 scientists and special technicians, will reou‘ > weeks of analysis. The battleship’s secret equipment includes special aircraft detection and radarcontrolled gunnerv devices per'ected since the war. Her total number of guns remains secret, but it is stated to be not Jess than 100—the smallest being 40-millimetre Bofors.
