BEHAVIOUR OF HEAVY TRANSPORT DRIVERS ON BRIDGES

COMPLAINTS BY MOTORISTS Complaints were voiced at the executive meeting of the Automobile Association (Wanganui) this week concerning the behaviour of some heavy transport drivers on main highway bridges. The offence was particularly bad on the Bulls traffic bridge, it was stated, members giving instances ot lorries rushing on to the bridge when they should have given way to motorists who had already started to cross it. One member said he was one-third of the way across the bridge when a big transport rushed on at the other end, and as there was no room in which to pass because of the overhang of the lorry, the motorist had no alternative but to back off the bridge.

Another member criticised tno by heavy- transport of, Victoria Avenue. The surface was bad enough, he said, without heavy vehicles making it worse. Most of the damage, he claimed, was caused by this type of vehicle. He suggested that these vehicles should he made to use the side streets when passing through Wanganui.
