WITH THE HARRIERS
CLUB CHAMPIONSHIP. The Wanganui Harrier Club will conduct its club championships tomorrow from the Racecourse. The junior race, over a course of 3 1-8 miles, will commence at. 2 p.rn., and the seniors, over the Bramwell course of G'. miles, at 2.30 p.m. All competitors a.e requested to be promptly on time. A sealed handicap will also be conducted in conjunction with both events .
As most harriers arc now' in good form some interesting racing should be seen. Teams to represent the club in the West Coast championships on August. 3 al Wanganui, will be announced after the race. Although the club was beaten last Saturday at Palmerston North for the Lawrence Cup, the effo.t of the juniors was ouistanding by gaining seven out of the first 10 places, including a dead-hea'. for first place. J. Burnett ran a much improved race, proving that his racing on the track during the summer season has been beneficial. Ho should be a strong contender for the West Coast title. D. Mitchell :an his usual type of race, but ■ unable to produce quite enough sprint to fool it with the winners. If he can finish with a bit more dash he no doubt would prove a good winner. D. Weller ran an exceptionally good race, indicating that he has it in him if he tries, his lime being only Bsec. behind those of the winners. He. also, must, be reckoned with for the championship title.
B. Kenning returned to his usual form by running very strongly. He has a good style and a good finish, his lapse of form over the last few weeks being only a temporary one, and he should make the West Coast team. J. Galvin continued his improving form by running a steady race throughout, lie is perhaps the most improved junior in the club, and should be another contender for the team. He has a good style and runs well, without overdoing himself. B. Fa roll did not produce his usual form, but this may only be a temporary lapse and no doubt he will be amongst, the placegetters when the numbers go up. W. Harris showed improved form. Despite the fad that, he has only had* a few races this season, he may soon displace other members for a place in the team, providing that he sticks to training seriously.
