RACES AT STRATFORD TO-MORROW

HAWERA HORSES HAVE FINAL GALLOPS Hawera horses engaged at the Stratford meeting on Saturday were allotted their final gallops yesterday morning on the outside of the course proper, with the going very heavy, writes “Goldspur” in the Hawera Star.” Adrigoole (Clifford* and Scarteen (Holland) recorded 1.13 for the last live furlongs of a round of strong work. Adrigoole is racing in im proved style, and he should again run prominently in the Winter Hack Handicap. Gayanne (Clifford) and Titahi (Holland' worked together over five furlongs, requiring 42 for the last three. They were not after time. Both hit out in improved style and they should make their presence felt on Saturday. Peter s Choice (Potroz) covered a mile at. a little better than threequarter pace. He bears a healthy appearance and is likely to contest the hurdle event at Stratford. He has been schooling well of late, and if he juntos correctly he should prove the hardest to beat. His last start over the battens was at Wanganui in September, when a faulty jump early in the contest ruined his chances. Dutch Orator (Holland) and San Ferian (Markwick) ran half a mile in 54 1-5. Dutch Orator is under offer for sale. He will probably race on Saturday and should run well in the Maiden Stakes. Robin’s Reward (Flower) sprinted a couple of furlongs in 28. He is carity’ing much surplus condition, but will be in the right order for the early classic events next season. Master Guard (Moore) and Miss Corvette (Cole) traversed half a mile in 59. The former is showing promise as a hurdler and he may soon get on the winning list. NEW TRAINEES AT HAWERA The former Ellerslie jockey, B. Mark wick, has arrived in Hawera, where he is setting up as a public trainer. He has Killeymoon and the promising two-year-old Beau Rave in his charge, and Tote Odds is to join the pair in the coming week. Markwick is to combine riding and training. F. C. Kendall has also acquired training stables at Hawera, and he will be quartered here early in the new season. Gold Chain may contest the Winter Hack Handican on Saturday in preference to the Hack and Hunters’ Hurdles. He is to race in the hack hurdle events at Riecarton after competing at Stratford. If the track remains soft Almaza is a doubtful starter in the Tonks Handicap. The Grand, an impressive double winner at New Plymouth last week, is likely to contest the President’s Handicap on Saturday, in which he will be ridden by I. Eaton. He will have the benefit of a 71b allowance and v.’ith 7.13 to carry he should prove ve’w hard to beat. The sneedy General Pay. who was ’eft at the post in his second start at New Plymouth, is to contest the Stewards’ Hack Handicap on Saturday in preference to the Egmont Hack.
