The executive committee of the Mothers Helpers’ Society met last Friday in the Victoria League Rooms to make arrangements for the annual meeting to be held next month. As the date of the meeting will be advertised it was decided that no invitations should be sent out to members. It was decided to ask all members to g.ve a donation of one shilling for C.0.R.5.0. All members had offered io help with the clothing drive to be held lor C.0.R.5.0. Mrs. C. A. Piper and Mrs. A. Spurdie reported on having represented the society at the recent Plunket annual meeting. The president, Mrs. A. H. Mac Lean, said that with the money donated by members of the society; she had bought new cotton garments for women and children for the appeal by the Girl Guides for clothing to send to Malaya. Members then attended the committee meeting of the proposed Town and Country Residential Nursery. Victoria League Social Afternoon. A social afternoon arranged by the Victoria League in aid of league funds was held in Dustin’s Rooms yesterday afternoon when a delightful programme was presented. The president Mrs. N. R. Bain, expressed Her thanks to those who were giving items, and took the opportunity of welcoming new members. She outlined the work of the Victoria League and what it stood for. She pointed out that the league was an Empire organisation which extended hospitality to people of other parts of the Empire. Speakof Britain and her need for help in after-war readjustment, Mrs. Bain said she honed everyone would help and buy British goods. The programme* which gave much pleasure to lhe gathering comprised pianoforte solos played by Miss Peggv Scott, songs by Mrs. Russell Scoular, for whom Miss Scott, played the accompaniments. and sketches in character, by Mrs. C. S. Young and Mrs. T. L. Sperring. The sketches were “Questions and Answers.” being the episode in a stationmaster’s life, and “Buying a Hat,” in which Mrs. Young took lhe nart of a milliner’s saleslady, and Mrs. Sperring the person purchasing a hat. Afternoon tea was served.
