SHIPS STILL IDLE AT AUCKLAND

(P.A.) Auckland, July 18. Eleven ships are still held up on the Auckland and Onehunga waterfronts by the dispute regarding the lighting and heatl ng of crews’ quarters, in spite of decisions by the National Council of the Seamei’s Union in Wellington. and the Auckland branch of the union on Wednesday that the ships should put to sea. Three ships, the Kapiti, Margaret and Paroto sailed on Wednesday afte noon, and it was expected that the others would sail on Wednesday night, but they remained at their berths today.

The crews of Hie delayed ships held a meeting among themselves to-day, when it was decided to await a decision of the National Council of the union, which met in Wellington today, before putting to sea.

GREYMOUTH POSITION (P.A.) Grey mouth, July 18. More than half a million f’et of timber and 3300 tons of coal for the North Island are held up at Greymouth as a result of the shipping strike. AU four vessels in port are now involved in the dispute. The Gabriella, which was ready for sea last evening, was brought in when the crew refused to sail. The Gabriella’s cargo comprises 493,000 feet of timber, 700 tons of coal and general goods. Of the three'other ships tied up the Poolta has 2000 tons of coal aboard, the Holmlea 600 tons of coal and the Foxton 73,000 feel of limbo •. The Poolta and Foxton, the first to take strike action, have been idle since Monday. The Holmlea became involved yesterday, anil the Gabriella on the completion of loading last night.
