BACONER COMPETITION AT WESTFIELD
AWARDS AiSNOUNCED (P.A.) Auckland July 15. A record entry of 3480 pig carcases, valued at £14,000, was on 4'<olay at the Westfield freezing ■.•.orics when the results of the judging in the Tomoana porker and baconer competition were announced. For the last e.ght years the Tomoana competition has been exclusively a baconer competition, but this year it was not only extended to include porkers, but there were sections for members of young farmers’ clubs and returned servicemen. The North Island baconer championship was won by J. B. uogan, of Kamo, with four pedigree ’ Large Whites, which gained 358 points. The North ’ Island porker championship was won by F. A. Dewhuist, of Pukekohe, with four Large Whites which also gained 358 points. The North Island combined team championship was won by D. S. Misker, of Uruti, Taranaki, whose entry secured an aggregate of GB9 points. Entries from the Ruakura Animal Research Station gained first place in the Waikato porker section in the National Pig Council North Island championship and in the Waikato District Pig Council section but they ..ere not eligible for prtees.
