MANPOWER COMMITTEE
BODY TO INQUIRE INTO USE OF ARMED FORCES CIVIL EMPLOYMENT. (P.A.) Wellington, May 26. The Minister of Defence, Mr. Jones, announced the setting up of a committee to investigate the proper utilisation of manpower in the armed services, having regard to the requirements of the armed services and civil employment. The committee, which will make re- ! commendations to the Minister from I fine to time, will comprise the following:—Mr. A. D. Park, C.M.G. (chairman), a director of the State Advances Corporation and rOTfner Secretary to the Treasury; Mr. J. H. (deputy chairman), Public Ser‘Gce Commissioner; Mr. H. L. Bockett, director of the National Service Department; Mr. W. R. Clarke, who has I Deen a member of the Armed Forces [Appeal Board. Dunedin, and is secretary of the Seamen's Union, Dunedin; Mr. lan M. Matheson. New Zealand Manufacturers’ Federation; Mr. Leonard G. Lowry, M.P. for Otaki, who served in the last war; Mr. T. L. MacDonald. M.P. for Mat aura, who served in both the last and the present wars. The Minister also announced that each of the chiefs of staff would appoint a services representative to be associated with the committee when matters concerning his part of the services were being considered. Such representative had no voting power. The committee was to investigate the whole matter generally, as soon as possible, and would inquire into such particular matters from time to time as the Minister referred to it, or as the committee thought fit.
