Electors in Wanganui City will have the oportunity of voting on five issues - the Mayoralty, the City Council, the Harbour Board, the Hospital Board and the Power Board. The number of issues would have been six if opponents of the crematorium proposal could have arranged a plebiscite. Candidates for the office ol Mayor are the Hen. W. J. Rogers," Mayor from 1527 to 1931 and from 1933 to th e present day, and Dr. G. J. Adams, Citizens’ Committee representative. Mr. Kogers is again being sponsored by the Labour Party. For the City Council 12 councillors have to be elected, and there are two "tickets” of 12, making a total of 24 candidates. Further, each "ticket” has five of the present councillors on it, two former members not seeking reelection. Only one woman seeks a seat on the City Council, and there are no independent candidates. Five seats are to be filled on the Hospital Board by city representatives, and 11 candidates are offering, five each from the Labour Party and the Citizens’ Committee, and one independent, the latter, being one of the four women standing for election. Three of the candidates are seeking re-election, but this time there are five seats, as against four at the 1931 election.

Twelve candidates are offering their services on the Harbour Board, for which six members are required, and in each instance the Labour Party and the Citizens’ Committee are represented by six aspirants for office. Only three members of the old board are seeking re-election. Four seats have to be filled on the Wanganui-Rangitikei Electric Power Board, and there are nin e names on the ballot paper, these comprising four each as representatives of the Labour Party and the Citizens' Committee and one independent.
