STATE HOUSES

FEW FOR RETURNING SERVICEMEN (P.A.) Auckland, May 24. To meet the needs of nearly 1000 married ex-service applicants for houses in Auckland, the rehabilitation sub-committee for the latest four weeks’ period was provided with only two State houses for allocation. Commenting on the position, Mr. A. P. Postlewaite, R.S.A., president, who is a member of the committee, to-day said the youngest returned man from the present war could never live long enough to get a home unless the rate of allocation was greatly speeded up. He strongly criticised the absence of [Government planning of manpower jand materials, especially timber, and I the inadequate training of tradesmen.
