TAIHAPE FIRE LOSS
SMALL AMOUNT LAST YEAR ANNUAL MEETING OF BOARD (0.C.) Taihape, April 19. Fire loss in Taihape last year amounted to only £l4 10s. This was disclosed in the annual report of the brigade superintendent (Mr. Collins) to tne annual meeting of the Taihape Fire Board. In connection with the alterations to the picture theatre, the chairman explained thac, because of certain wartime restrictions, the work was not proceeded with, but he had since received instructions that a permit would shortly be issued to proceed with the worK. In regard to asphalting it was agreed tnat the board was willing to proceed with its portion of the work, provided the Town Council did its share, and the council be notified accordingly. It was stated that the team which attended the demonstration at Palmerston North last week had acquitted itself well, as the majority of the men were new brigadesmen. ’They had secured a lourtn place. It was decided that their keenness be placed on record. On the motion of Mr. P. Kearins it was resolved tnat the painting ol lire boxes and poles be proceeded with. Mr. Giedhill was re-elected chairman subject to forthcoming elections. There were present: Messrs. Giedhill and Ashenuen (representing Taihape Town Council), P. Kearins, junr. (representing the Internal Affairs Department), Messrs. Gee and Wood (representing insurance companies), Collins (Fire Brigade superintendent) and Leighton (secretary).
