ARTS AND CRAFTS

SUCCCESSFUL MEMBERS’ NIGHT. Vocal and instrumental items by leading Wanganui musicians were features of a successful members’ evening of the Wanganui Arts and Crafts Society on Wednesday night. There was a large attendance of members, the musical programme being arranged by Mr. Gordon Mcßeth. The society's president. Mr. C. L. Duigan, was in the chair. The presentation of a trio in B Flat Major by Beethoven and a trio in A Major by Tschaikowski received special praise by the audience. The first was presented with Miss T. Collier at the piano, Mrs. Perkins at the violin, and Mrs. G. F. Saunders at the ’cello, while for the latter number Miss P. Scott was at the piano, Mrs. Perkins at the violin, and Mrs. Saunders at the ’cello. Two songs, “Lament of Isis” and “Ombra ma fu” by Miss Penryhn Hutton, a humorous recitation depicting a cockney, an Irish girl, and a Spaniard by Mrs. Gilberd. and two songs, “The Windmill” and “Sweet Night" by Mr. W. Bailey Marlin were also weh received. Following the address by Mr. Jenkins, buffet supper was served and members exhibited their recent works. Most of the pictures on display were landscapes, many well-known Wanganui beauty spots, one portrait, and various flower studies were included. A vote of thanks to the entertainers and Mr. Jenkins, the speaker o£ the evening, was carried by acclamation.
