Mr. R. Marsh, secretary of the Y.M.C.A., has been gazetted an honorary ch"d welfare officer in Wanganui. Mr. A. J. M. Goodwin, manager of the Palmerston North branch of the Bank of New South Wales, died suddenly yesterday morning at Palmerston North.

Mr. T. H. James and Mr. P. Evans were re-elected patron and president respectively at the annual meeting of the Wanganui Rowing Club on Saturday afternoon. Acting-Air Commodore M. W. Buckley, M.8.E., R.N.Z.A.F., has been appointed till March 26, 1943, an honorary aide-de-camp on the staff of the Governor-General, vice Wing-Com-mander J. Seabrook, A.F.C., R.N.Z.A.F.

The Rev. F. A. Thompson (Auckland) is visiting Wanganui. This week he will conduct special children’s services in St. Paul's Presbyterian Church, Guyton Street, as part of the National Campaign for Christian Order. Dr. W. M. Thomson (Hawera), a vice-president of the Royal New Zealand Institute of Horticulture, who died recently, was referred to at a subsequent meeting of the institute’s executive in Wellington. It was stated that Dr. Thomson was a lover of native flora and a keen horticulturist, being particularly interested in hybridisation. The deaths on active service of Pilot-Officers E. Cooper and W. S. Emmett, Sergeant A. Taylor, R.N.Z.A.F. and Private H. R. Robertshaw was referred to at the annual meeting of the Wanganui Rowing Club on Saturday afternoon by the president, Mr. P. Evans. As a mark of respect to their memory the meeting stood in silence for a brief period. The death is reported from Auckland, of Mr. William Bridson, formerly a well-known resident of Wellington, and prominent in athletics. Mr. Bridson, who was educated at Wellington College, entered the firm of E. W. Mills and Company, Wellington, later becoming Wellington manager for W. Briscoe and Company, a position he retained till he went to Auckland as partner in the firm of Duthie, Bridson and Co., which subsequently became John Duthie and Co., Ltd., when Mr. Bridson retired from active business.
