RELEASED FROM CAMP
CHEESE FACTORY LABOUR Notwithstanding that men have been released from Army camps in the Wanganui and Taranaki districts the shortage of workers for cheese factories remains acute. Soldiers in camp are volunteering for this work and it is expected that more will be available from the Army in the Wellington district within the next week or so. An official statement says that men who have already volunteered for the work are regarded by the factory managers as of a particularly satisfactory type and men Who have been spoken to have expressed complete satisfaction with their positions. The need for factory labour varies daily. “It is obvious,” says the official statement, “that to overcome the leeway it will be necessary for men to volunteer in increasing numbers. Factory managers themselves can assist in some cases by supplying the names of men in the Army likely to be available and furnishing the district manpower officer with the name of the camp.” Preference must be given tu soldiers in the second or third medical grades and to those under 21 years of age.
