MADAGASCAR OPERATIONS BRITISH FORCES ENTER ANTANANARIVO DRAMATIC ANNOUNCEMENT BY OFFICER (By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright) London, Sept. 23. The capital of Madagascar, Antananarivo, is reported to have fallen to British troops, There was a dramatic interruption in this evening’s musical programme from Antananarivo radio when a voice said: “This is a British officer speaking. British troops entered Antananarivo at 5 p.m. to-day. All is quiet. That is an.’’ So far there are only news agency reports of the announcement as it is impossible to pick up Antananarivo raaio in this country. No official announcement has come from British Headquarters. It was known earlier that our forc> were approaching the outskirts of the city after advancing in the face 01 rather staffer opposition. This opposition was finally overcome yesterday afternoon. At mid-day to-day Antananarivo broadcast a farewell telegram from the Vichy French Governor-General, who is stated to have fled to the south of the island.
