EVACUATION PLANS

According to the E.P.S. organiser, Mr. I. Manley, nearly three-quarters of the cards giving directions for evacuation have been sent out from Wanganui headquarters. A further batch is ready for posting. Evacuation would only be carried out in a case of extreme emergency, and could not be done unless directed by the military authorities. Mr. Manley added that the cards clarify the first stage of the evacuation scheme —that of where evacuees are to go and by what route. The next stage will be that of arranging transport. Invalids, elderly persons, and mothers with children will receive first consideration.
