SUBMARINES OF CONCRETE

PLANS BEFORE U.S. SENATORS Concrete submarines have been proposed to the United States Senate Military Affairs sub-committee by a mysterious “Mr. Murray"—and the' committee has been impressed wit?, the idea. Mr. Murray gave evidence of his formula for constructing concrete submarines. He declined to identify himself within hearing of the Press, and said he did not want the official stenographer present. After Mr. Murray had given his evidence, the chairman. Senator Lee, said he was convinced that concrete could be used for the manufacture of cargocarrying submarines, which could be built with one-fifth of the steel used in an all-steel submarine. Senator Lee asserted that Mr. Murray wanted to build a pilot plant for the construction of his first concrete submarine. He explained that once the forms were built, the submarines could be turned out as fast as the concrete could be mixed and poured.
