“SPRING OFFENSIVE”

NATIONAL SAVINGS DRIVE I WANGANUI CONTRIBUTION ’] A total of 2167 investments consti- ( tuted the Wanganui district contribul tion to the National Savings camI paign for the third week of the 1 “spring offensive." The figure represented an increase of 400 new recruits who put their passbooks into the attack last week. This was, however, only 15 per cent, of the total strength of the National Savings battalion for the district, which numI bens 14,530. A remarkable feature of the offensive drive is that the Wanganui district has remained almost stationary in ninth position on the Dominion honours list each week. The encouraging increase in deposits last week inspires confidence that Wanganui is now moving into position for its full assault and should, in the next two weeks, assert its claim to leadership. A deposit to 1080 more accounts last week would have gained the district this distinction. Wanganui citv and suburbs provided 1382 of the active accounts last I week, representing 19 per cent, of the I 7270 accounts opened in the area, an ■ increase of 3 per cent, over the pre- | vious week. ■ In the country district the deposits | totalled onlv 785, or 10.8 per cent, of I the 7250 accounts open at sub-offices. I This poor response was mainly reI sponsible for lowering the district i average. i Reviewing the progress of the campaign the Wanganui National Savings ! Committee expressed satisfaction with the improvement shown. The com- ; mittee makes a strong appeal to | every national saver in the commuI nity "to lend his support to the dis- ! trict effort bv making a deposit to his | National Savings account each week I during the remaining two weeks of 1 the “offensive"
