MARTON daffodil show
WONDERFUL ARRAY OF BLOOMS (0.c.) Marton, Sept. 22. The annual daffodil and spring flower show, which is conducted in conjunction with the Marton Parochial District Guild, opened in the Civic Theatre this afternoon, when there was a good attendance of the general public. There was keen competition in all classes, especially in the children’s section, and the staging of the blooms was very effective. The secretarial duties were in the capable hands of Mr. Alan Gibson, whose horticultural knowledge was of great assistance to the committee. One of the features of the show is the wonderful exhibition of daffodils by Mr. Alan Gibson, of Marton, who was the most successful exhibitor at the national show recently held in Wanganui. Mr. A. J. Shailer, Palmerston North, judged the daffodils, Mr. R. T. C. Scott the miscellaneous and cut flowers section, and Miss R. H. Wing the decorative section. The champion bloom of the show was Mr. George Larsen’s “Aranjeuz.” The show was officially opened by Mr. E. B. Gordon, M.P., who congratulated the committee on the excellent exhibit of flowers, which was a tribute to the productivity of the Rangitikei and Manawatu soil. Mrs. H. Bayley, secretary of the guild, presented a handsome bouquet to Mrs. E. B. Gordon, and a posy to Mrs. W. Raine, president of the guild. Stallholders
