WANGANUI CENTRE ANNUAL MEETING k . ist ELEC TION OF OFFICERS er More than 30 persons attended tne n 5! annual meeting of the Wanganui Red ,s Cross Centre held yesterday afiernoon. The Rev. J. H. Datson oresided. The report disclosed that two sub- - centres were formed during the year, and the number in the area now ’ totals 21. Sub-centres report an inL crease in membership. a ’_ Tens of thousands of garments ht have been forwarded from the centre to headquarters. Sub-centres have augmented their funds by the holdpt ing of shop days and other efforts. iH' Emergency outfits and first, aid applien ances have been supplied to the if E.P.S. posts, and members have cooperated with the medical authorirf ties at the posts. Members have a visited lhe public and emergency hosnr] pitals and distributed fruit, reading materials and tobacco. Rapid strides have been made in lhe training of voluntary aids, and most sub-centres have organised classes and formed detachments. During the year a voluntary aid com- °“ mittee was formed, with the privilege of selecting applicants for service in overseas hospitals. It has been teji> sponsible for sending voluntary aids n. to hospitals within New Zealand, A - and to emergency hospitals in Taill' hane and Wanganui. The Collins Cup competition for Red Cross teams was held in Wangan- nui, and thanks were extended in u- the report to the Wanganui Suba Centro officials for helping with the arrangements. Interest in the Junior Red Cross is being maintained, and Durie Hill and Taihape have sponsored the fori, mation of circles in their districts. Election of Officers.
