FATAL ACCIDENT WITH CAR

(P.A.) Dannevirke, May 15. Charles August Berkahn (67). farmer, of Makotuku, received a fractured skull and broken leg through being carried along by a car he apparently cranked while it was in gear. He had been to the railway station to see a relative off. and later was found in an adjoining paddock with the starting handle in his hand. No one saw the accident. He leaves a widow and grown-up family of ten. He was a well-known axeman, and was chairman of the Makotuku branch of the National Party.
