PARCELS FOR OVERSEAS
WAVERLEY W.D.F.U. AND CITIZENS’ COMMITTEE During April 61 parcels were sent to Waverley boys overseas, and in May 63 parcels were despatched, the latter parcels each consisting of one large cake, it was reported at the monthly meeting of the W.D.F.U. and Citizens’ Committee. Mrs. A. Morrison presided. A letlrT was read from the chaplain of the Mission to Seamen. Wellington, thanking members for knitted garments sent down for the sailors who are carrying our produce, and several donations were acknowledged. Reports from the stall and tea were both very satisfactory. In three weeks S 4 skeins of wool had been given out and 52 knitte 1 garments sent away. It was also mentioned that last year 71 garments had been sent to Air Force Relations in Wanganui. Several members have now started spinning and three seamen’s jerseys have already been knitted from the wool and several others ar? well on the way. A vote of thanks was passed to Mr. Whitehead. Patea, who has presented the rooms with an extra spinning wheel. Forty balls of twine have been procured from Patea and 16 nets have be*'n returned and six more are being made. The head of each working section was elected as follow: Parcels. Mrs. Newland: stall. Mrs. Johnston; tea. Mrs. Dickie; wool. Mrs. Strauchon; refugee box-.-. Mrs. \V. Alexander; sewing. Mrs. R. Hunt; spinning. Mrs. A. Wallace; nets. Mrs. J. C. Gray: farewelling soldiers at station, Mesdames Coull- and Johnston.
