OPPOSITION IN OFFICIAL PARTY London, May 12. | The report of the national executive! committee of the Labour Party for presentation to the annual conference, which opens on May 25, states that the committee considers it would be impossible to allow an “Independent Party” in Parliament during the electoral truce. Labour’s general attitude to the truce was under consideration. “Everyone,” the report states, “recognises the impossibility of allowing a so-called Independent Party to arise without opposition while the established political parties, in prosecuting the war to a successful conclusion, have found it necessary to make an electoral truce. The constitutional importance of this temporary procedure has compelled the committee to exercise a stronger measure of control over conditions governing the selection of candidates, and on occasion to I intervene 'n the interests of the party and the public.” The report adds that the Labour Party’s general attitude in by-elections where Government candidates are in the field is also under close consideration. ___________
