"DIM-OUT” IN CALIFORNIA
COAST LIGHTS SCREENED San Francisco, May 11. The office of Civilian Defence, at the navy’s request, has ordered a “dim-out” on the Californian coast from the Oregon border to Santa Maria for the duration of the war, effective from to-night. The order specifies that every light visible at sea must be extinguished. Bridge and highway lights must be shielded and the lights in homes and beach amusements fronting the ocean must be darkened completely.
