FAT WETHERS FIRM WANGANUI STOCK SALE A heavy yarding of fat ewes offered by Messrs. Freeman R. Jackson and Co. at the Wanganui sale yesterday, with prices slightly easier, but fat wethers and lambs were firm. An average yarding of breeding ewes sold well, as also did top wether lambs, but poor-conditioned lines were easier. The fat cattle market was firm for first quality, but easier on second quality. A mixed yarding of store cattle sold at late rates, with a good sale for weaner P.A. heifers and steers. A light entry of dairy stock met a dull sale with little business transacted. All classes of pigs showed a slight improvement on late rates and pigs were considerably firmer. Quotations:— Sheep.—Fat wethers. 26s to 275; light-weights, 22s to 24s lOd; prime owes, 18s 6d to 20s 3d; fat. 14s 9d to 17s; fat lambs, extra, to 275; fat, 18s 6d to 22s 9d; good wether lambs, to ISs lid; poor-conditioned well-grown, to 15s 4d; tail-end sorts, 8s to 12s; ewe lambs, to 20s; 4-vear ewes. mated Romneys, to 24s 4d; aged and failingmouth, mated Downs, 8s 2d to 12s; m.a. wethers, to 21s Id; 2 and 4-tooth wethers, to 20s 6d. At the Addington market there ere smaller entries to-day, with some recovery in values, mainly in primest cattle and fat sheep. Store Sheep.—A small entry. Lamb prices were fully firm on those of a week ago. Best wether lambs made to 18s sd, average sorts to 15s 6d, others to 13s 6d. ewe lambs to 26s 6d, two-tooth ewes up to 30s, older sheep up to 225, shipped ewes 17s to 18s Id. best local to 16s 6d, culls down to 7s. Fat Sheep.—A smaller entry. Prices for prime young ewes were better by fully a shilling a head, and some lines made values exceeding 265, but although some wethers realised over 345, any increase in this schedule was not quotable. Best wethers made to 34s 6d, prime to 31s 9d, others from 26s 1o 28s. Extra prime ewes sold at 22s 6d to 275. good 19s to 225; export ewes from 12s 6d to 16s. Fat Cattle—The market was good, the entries being the smallest for some time. Prices for prime ox beef improved 25s to 30s a head for a small proportion of the penning, but for other classes there was little appreciation. Best beef made about 42s 6d per lOOlbs, medium to 38s. ordinary to 355. rough down to 225. Best steers sold from £l6 to £l9 2s 6d. medium £l3 to £l5 10s. others £lO 10s to £l- - Best heifers made from £ll 10s to £l3 17s 6d, others £6 5s to £9 10s, good cows to £9 10s, exports £l3 7s. others £5 to £7 ss. Pigs.—A hig entry of porkers, and at th? beginning of the sale values advanced on those of a week ago. but late arrivals covered values. Choppers were in heavy supply. The bacon entry was the smallest of the season. Best porkers made from £2 12s 6d Io £3 2s 6d, others from 30s to 48s 6d: average price per lb. 6d to 7Jd. Best haconers sold at £4 5s 6d to £5 13s 6d; others £3 7s 6d to £4 4s 6d; average price per lb. 6*d to 7'id.
